Skin Checks
It’s important to get to know your skin and what is normal for you, so that you notice any changes. Skin cancers rarely hurt and are much more frequently seen than felt.
The sooner a skin cancer is identified and treated, the better your chance of avoiding surgery or, more seriously melanoma.
It is a good idea to talk to your doctor about your level of risk and for advice on early detection and undertaking a regular skin check.
A skin check involves the use of a hand held dermatoscope to the look at the lesions on the body and take photos that can be used for comparison in the future. If the doctor feels that any of your lesions are suspicious they will discuss with you the options available to you including taking a biopsy of the lesion to be checked by a pathologist.
A skin check should be part of your regular health care. We provide this service at our clinic. Should you require a skin check or surgical procedure for removal there may be a small out of pocket expense involved which will be discussed with you.
